Great position for experienced Marine Mechanic seeking variety, change of pace, and little supervision.

Marine Mechanic

We are seeking an experienced Marine Mechanic for the start of the 2023 season and beyond.  This position is for someone that likes to work on his/her own with little direction or supervision.  The Marine Mechanic will be responsible for all maintenance, service, and repair work of our storage customer boats, rental boats, and general marina related equipment.  An ideal candidate brings experience, expertise, thoroughness, attention to detail, self-direction, enthusiasm and enjoys the variety and flexibility this position has to offer.  We are not a production run style servicing marine facility with hundreds to thousands of boats but one that is more relaxed. This is a full-time 6 month-seasonal position from approximately May 1 through November 1.

It is very important to us that we get the best person for this position and so there is a lot of flexibility for the right candidate depending on their circumstances, needs, and desires.  The Marine Mechanic will work alongside the Office Manager and Owner for all things related to customer communication, scheduling, service requests, work orders, etc.

Marine Mechanic Details

  • All boats we service are trailerable boats consisting of mostly I/O bowriders and many outboard motor pontoons, tritoons, and center consoles.

  • Yamaha, Mercury, and/or Suzuki Outboard certification a huge plus! We are expanding late 2023 into 2024 to carry a line of pontoon/tritoons.  New boats will need to be setup and tested.  We have our own onsite boat ramp.

  • Current rental fleet of many Yamaha 4 stroke and some Mercury 4 stroke outboards

  • Current rental fleet of 10 Yamaha WaveRunners – experience with oil changes/general maintenance.

  • Trailer servicing and maintenance

  • Repairing/replacing replacing pontoon parts such as rub rails or fencing.

  • Maintain company trucks, diesel forklift, Kubota tractor, and other motorized equipment.

  • Parts lookup and ordering – basic computer usage.

  • All work is done at our facility.  Very few occasions of mobile service work.  Marine work is able to be performed inside with run tank and large exhaust fan and not out in the wind/rain.

  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.

  • Problem solve and be willing to tackle anything, but also know when it’s beyond one’s ability and say no.

  • Move, launch, and haul boats using truck, forklift, and tractor

  • Help maintain the grounds which may include lawn maintenance

  • General construction/handyman type abilities a huge plus for this position

  • Good steward of Summertime Rentals and the South Arm Marina

  • This is a position that has a lot of variety and our shop also has a beautiful lakeside view location!

General Season/Schedule Overview:

Our season is May 1st through November 1st but may extend and vary based on weather and needs.  May 1st through mid-June we are busy preparing our storage customer boats as well as setting up for the rental/boating season.  The rental boat season is extremely busy from approximately mid to late June through late August.  At that time, the rental season slows down and we ramp up for the boat storage and marina “pack-up” season from approximately early September through October into early November.

The Marine Mechanic position is ideally a M-F 8:30-4:30 or 9-5 position with some flexibility.  Possible 4-day week during part of the summer season.  No Saturdays or weekends except in the rare circumstance to get a rental boat back on the water quickly.

Compensation:

Hourly pay range of $28-34 per hour depending on experience and what you have to offer.  We also offer bonuses, paid time off/sick days, and SIMPLE IRA company match after the first year.
