East Jordan (September 26, 2023) While shopping last year for holiday gifts to be donated to the Community Christmas, David Schweer and Mary Faculak were overwhelmed at how many requests for warm blankets appeared on the lists. The two have been shopping for the past nine years for a Secret Santa benefactor and these increased blanket requests were very concerning and troublesome. They began thinking and talking about what they could do to help fulfill this very basic need for their community members. Through discussions and research they developed a plan. The two invited Shannon Fender who helped them with formulating a plan to help collect new blankets and then offer them to those in need anonymously and conveniently.
Thus, “East Jordan’s …Operation Blanket” was organized. The trio are inviting individuals who are able to donate a new blanket(s) on Saturday, October 14th from 9:00 AM to Noon. There will be a market and parked enclosed trailer in the Main Street Center (100 Main St.) Parking Lot. If you are not able to do so on that day, new blankets may be dropped off at the East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce Office Monday, through Friday, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. David and Mary’s Secret Santa was so touched by this project they offered to donated a $100.00 Chamber Check that will be drawn to one blanket donor. A ticket will be given to donors for every new blanket they donate. Drawing will be held on Monday, October 23rd at 3:00 PM at the Chamber Office.
The new, warm blankets will be available to be picked up by those in need on the following dates: Saturday, October 28 from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM and Wednesday, November 1 from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM.
For more information on this project contact Mary Faculak or Shannon Fender at 231-536-7351 or info@ejchamber.org
