GLCO presents Women Composers Night

Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra presents Women Composers Night, at 7 pm on Saturday, September 23rd, at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts.

 

Join us for this extraordinary performance showcasing women’s contributions to the arts and featuring rising star Karisa Chiu, violin soloist. Award-winning women whose works will be performed include sought-after living composers Jesse Montgomery and Joan Tower, as well as legendary Florence Price, Amanda Rontgen-Maier, Ethel Smyth, and Joan Tower.

 

Concert tickets include an optional pre-concert talk at 6 pm by Libor Ondras, as well as a post-concert reception.

Tickets from $35 to $65 are available at glcorchestra.org/concerts. The concert is free for veterans, active service members, and students 18 and under by calling the GLCO office at 231-487-0010

GAR Park Fundraising Meatloaf Dinner

Join the Rebec-Hosler-Sweet Post 227 for a Meatloaf Dinner to benefit the G.A.R. Park improvements. The dinner will be held at the American Legion, 305 Main Street, East Jordan from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday, Jul7 29th. Stop in to see the plans and the work in progress on G.A.R. Park.

E.J. Garden Club Flower Show

“Sand, Sea and Shells” is the theme for the 2023 East Jordan Garden Club Flower Show. The event will be held at Jordan River Arts Council building, Saturday, July 29 from Noon – 4:00 PM. Arrangements made by Garden Club Members will be on display for viewing, photos and voting (arrangements are not for sale). Over 50 entries will be judged on Best of Show, Theme, Single Stem, Miniatures, Dried Arrangements, Herbs, and Edible Arrangements. Admission to the event is Free

“From Vienna with Love” – a Night of Waltzes

Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra presents ‘From Vienna with Love,” a Night of Waltzes, at 7 pm on Thursday, July 20th at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts.

 

Join us for this extraordinary performance celebrating elegant music favorites from Vienna:  waltzes, polkas and quadrilles by Strauss, Lehar, Delibes, and more. Enjoy favorites such as the Blue Danube Waltz and the overture to Die Fledermaus.  The GLCO, led by Maestro Libor Ondras, is joined by brilliant local sopranos Amy Joy Cross and Jamie Beth Platte in gorgeous opera arias and duets.

Central Lake Community Paddle June 29 @ 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Grab your paddleboard, kayak, or canoe and join Paddle Antrim for an amazing evening paddle out of Central Lake. This hour-long slow paddle will meet at Central Lake’s Thurston Park, near the pavilion at 6:00 pm and launch at 6:15 pm. We encourage all ages and types of paddle crafts to join us on the water for our  slow paddles. Community paddles last approximately one hour on the water, are free, and no pre-registration is required. All paddlers must bring their own craft/boat, paddle, and pfd (life jacket). As with all Paddle Antrim events, pfds must be properly worn at all times. All ages are welcome but children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult out on the water.

Bellaire Community Paddle With Short’s Brewing Company

Grab your paddleboard, kayak or paddle craft of choice and join Paddle Antrim for an amazing evening paddle on the Intermediate River as a lead up to Bellaire’s Rubber Ducky Festival & Race.

This hour long slow paddle on the Intermediate River  will begin at Bellaire’s Richardi Park at 6:00 pm to check in and we will launch promptly as a group at 6:15 pm. Paddle Antrim encourage all ages and types of paddle crafts to join us on the water for these slow paddles. These paddles last approximately one hour on the water, are free, and no pre-registration is required. All paddlers must bring their own craft/boat, paddle, and pfd (life jacket). As with all Paddle Antrim events, pfds must be properly worn at all times. All ages are welcome but children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult out on the water.

Following the paddle we will meet at the Short’s Beer Garden in downtown Bellaire to enjoy some delectable brews with fellow paddlers.

Elk Rapids Harbor Days Community Paddle

This hour long slow paddle will begin at Elk Rapid’s Rotary Park at 6:00 pm to check in and we will launch  as a group at 6:15 pm.
