GLCO presents Messiah by Candlelight concert

 

Join us on Thursday, December 12th and Friday, December 13th for a cherished decades-long holiday tradition as the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra presents a concert featuring Handel’s masterpiece, Messiah. The performance will be at 7 p.m. on both nights at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts, 800 Bay Harbor Dr., Petoskey.

 

The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra Chorus (GLCO) and guest soloists, led by Director André Strydom, will join the orchestra led by GLCO Conductor and Music Director Maestro Libor Ondras. The concert also includes Schubert’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Sleigh Ride.

 

Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra is a non-profit organization headquartered in downtown Petoskey. Tickets from $35 – $65 are available at www.glcorchestra.org.  The concert is free for veterans, active service members and students 18 and under by calling 231-487-0010.

 

 

Northern Michigan Chorale presents “Journey Through the Years in Song”

Northern Michigan Chorale presents Journey Through the Years in Song, Saturday November 16th at 7 pm, and Sunday November 17th at 3 pm at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor.  Tickets ($15 general public, $12 for students and seniors, free for age 10 and under) for the 42nd fall concert for this long-running community group are available from Chorale members, or at the GLCFA Box office 231-439-2610  www.greatlakescfa.org.  They will also be available at the door. The group is directed by Kay Kline and accompanied by Cynda Coleman.  The concert is presented with generous support from NorthGoods in downtown Petoskey and from community supporters. GLCO presents The Drumheads in Percussion Ensemble in free Sunday Series recital

GLCO presents the Drumheads Percussion Ensemble

Enjoy the many sounds of percussion with The Drumheads from the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra.  The free concert is part of the GLCO’s Sunday Series, bringing recitals of small ensembles to six neighbor venues in Emmet and Charlevoix Counties. The concert will take place at 4 PM on Sunday, November 10th at the Presbyterian Church of Boyne City, located at 401 S. Park St.

Tim Mocny, Bob Sagan, and Timm Johnson will perform favorites, reimagined classics, video game music and more in creative percussion arrangements with drums, glockenspiel, marimba, cymbals, and “found” instruments.  There is something for everyone and all ages in this dynamic performance.

The free of charge Sunday Series recitals are made possible through the generous support of Carolyn Klender.

GLCO’s Little Waves – Children’s Music Series – at Charlevoix and Petoskey Libraries

Charlevoix Public Library and Petoskey District Library are hosting “Little Waves,” a young children’s music program.  Free and open to the public and sponsored by the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra (GLCO), the program is designed to introduce young children (ages 3 – 10) and their families to music in an entertaining setting.  The program takes place on Saturdays at 10:30 am in Petoskey and 1 pm in Charlevoix.  Each unique event features a multimedia story, an opportunity to hear one or more GLCO musicians demonstrate and explain how their instruments work, and fun music-related activities for kids.
