On Friday, January 4, 2019 East Jordan Public Schools celebrated the renovation of its’ High School Gymnasium along with other facility upgrades, by hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony before the start of the Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity Basketball games against Elk Rapids. The Board of Education was joined by the Administrative Cabinet, Coaches and the Basketball teams. Board President Ted Sherman and East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce President Mary Faculak cut the ribbon in front of an excited Red Devil Crowd.
The Board of Education and administration took time to thank the tax payers of East Jordan for their generosity and support of the students and staff at East Jordan Public Schools. “This project has been a great example of how to build for the future and provide a safe, updated and efficient facility for years to come” said Superintendent Matt Stevenson. “Not only did this support enable this physical education/gymnasium facility to be renovated and now provides the most modern of area facilities, their generosity at the polling place allowed for updated technology and classroom renovations for all students, secure building entrances, new energy efficient boilers in each building and new, even safer busses for our students.”
In appreciation of their endless support, hard work and dedication Superintendent Stevenson presented Board of Education members with a memento of this project. In recognition of their effort, each Board of Education member received a section of the original gymnasium floor fashioned into a plaque. The plaques were designed by the high school CAD class, cut and engraved by the high school woodworking class supervised by instructor John Cross. “We have great people with a clear vision leading this district. It has been an exciting project to work on with the Board of Education and I am excited about our future.” Stevenson added.
