Socks Kick is a Michigan based company formed by former Rotary Exchange Student Baris Atmaca from Turkey. After visiting East Jordan numerous times over the years with his family the idea of forming a company in Northern Michigan has become a reality
For the past 35 years his family has manufactured socks and legwear. The company does a full cycle of production; starting from knitting, finishing, packaging, inspecting, marketing and exporting. All of their socks are knitted on authentic vintage machines using only the finest quality yarns made for a superior fit and finish. They provide a refined feel that is immediately noticeable to the touch.
The company aims to expand statewide and nationally. Their next step after this will be to move some of the production from Turkey to here to make MADE IN U.S.A. socks. With the support of the community Socks Kicks expects to expand while increasing local investment and creating jobs.

EAST JORDAN — For Dr. Sara Hall, the timing was perfect.
Born and raised in Traverse City, the dentist had lived in Knoxville, Tenn., with her husband, Matt, for 10 years, and both wanted to come back to Michigan.
Hall’s father, Dr. Richard Johnson, with a well-established dental practice in East Jordan, was ready to retire. Offering the building to his daughter to set up her own practice, Hall Dental, was a perfect transition for them both.
Hall, a 2004 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry, moved to Knoxville with her husband and found employment with the Knoxville Health Department. Her practice there was child-centered and she hopes to continue with the same emphasis in East Jordan.
“I am all about prevention and education,” she said. “The importance of early intervention is paramount to life-long dental health. I think that understanding the apprehension that children and adults harbor about dentistry, is half the battle.”
Hall believes that children who have parents who value dentistry, will value it themselves. She welcomes parents with young children to her office and creates an atmosphere that is part play, part exploration and part exposure to dental care.
“I think that tooth decay is a 100 percent preventable disease,” she said. “There is really no excuse not to start early and maintain check-ups on a regular basis. Under the Affordable Care Act, routine dental visits and treatments are covered.
“Even if a 2-year-old just comes in to watch and plays around and feels comfortable here, it helps him or her get ready for later visits.”
Hall’s office space has been newly appointed with the latest in dental equipment and a child-friendly waiting room.
“Every summer that we lived in Knoxville, we spent our vacation time dreaming about the day we’d come back and now we have,” Hall said.
The dentist hopes to arrange for presentations in the East Jordan schools to familiarize the community with the services she offers, and welcomes new patients. To schedule an appointment, call Hall Dental at (231) 536-5030.

This small, quiet campground is licensed for 14 Rv’s (trailers, 5th wheels, tents, popups your choice of cover). It is located on beautiful Wilson Lake, 2.5 miles south of Ellsworth on Rushton Rd. Many folks drive right past not having any idea it is a campground, because you can’t see us from the road. Take time to drive down where you see the sign, you’ll be glad you did. Great place to camp and kayak & canoe, fish or just relax and enjoy yourself. We may be small but not without the same amenities as a big park: electric and water on sites, bath house with flush toilets and a unisex shower, even a dump station for those trailers that need it.
