The barriers that keep kids from staying in school and graduating are numerous and widespread.  Some are easy to spot, like academic problems or homelessness.  But many others are less obvious – bullying, untreated medical or dental issues, or lack of school supplies and clothes.  Communities In Schools is dedicated to helping identify and remove any and all barriers for the students we serve so they can stay in school and succeed in life.

At Communities In Schools, we work in schools full-time to remove those barriers by building one-on-one relationships that empower student to stay in school and succeed in life.  Because we’re in schools all day every day, we see the unique needs of each student and partner with teachers and community to address them.  Whether it’s clean clothes, help with school work, or emotional support to help a child cope with and recover from a traumatic event, we connect students with the relationships and resources they need to succeed.

My little Gift Shop features items made from small artists (Friends and Family), handcrafted items made in the USA, along with specialty items from around the world. You might even discover a few eclectic vintage items I’ve collected throughout the years.

Our secluded riverfront cabin has been completely remodeled and is available for you to enjoy the peace and tranquility of “The Promised Land”. Enjoy the solitude of no visible neighbors yet only minutes from downtown East Jordan where you can enjoy fresh local coffee, a delicious breakfast or some of the best soft serve ice cream Northern Michigan has to offer. Enjoy fantastic fishing out your front door, have a fire inside or out, or just relax to the sounds of the magnificent Jordan River.
Built from a kit in 1955 and remodeled in 2021, The Promised Land in EJ is an experience unlike no other. Located on the banks of the Jordan River, you will find solitude among the trees and wildlife. River otters, muskrats, deer, ducks, and various birds wander along the banks of the river as you sip your Michigan-made coffee on the three-season porch. Our pet-friendly cabin allows you and your family the opportunity to leave your stress behind. Many of the original parts of The Promised Land remain. Once inside, you will see the original front door that has been transformed into the bathroom door, hand-hewn beams, and a three-sided fireplace that allows the cabin to glow. A loft with twin logs beds will give your children or guests a cozy place to relax, read, color, or watch TV. Many items in our cabin are a mix of our families’ histories as well as updates. For example, the overhead light is created from a grandfather’s oars, the front porch was screened by a grandfather and great-grandfather, and the original log banister spells out PL on the porch. Wild Bill will pick you up on our shore and take you fishing for steelhead and trout. Stigg’s Brewery in Boyne City will provide you and your guests with one free local Stigg’s beer each as you enjoy their fantastic dinner choices. Ever wonder what the cabin looks like from the river? Jordan Valley Outfitters will take $20 off your rafting and canoeing trips which will take you right by the Promised Land in EJ.

We offer a selection of Over the Counter (OTC) items including vitamins and pain relief through our convenient drive-thru service.

Our pharmacists have over 50 years combined 50 years experience and can assist with medication questions, education or potential interactions. In addition, our pharmacists are trained and available to provide Shingrix and Tdap immunizations.
Insurance:

Our pharmacies participate with most commercial insurances, Medicare part D and Medicaid plans. We routinely review GoodRX to maintain competitive co-pay pricing.
Limited or no insurance, no problem.

For patients without prescription drug coverage, we offer a Sliding Fee Service to established patients of our health centers. This Sliding Fee Service offers low income, low-cost co-pay options, usually under $20 per prescription. The Sliding Fee Service is unique to Federally Qualified Health Centers with the 340B discount program and is not available at most commercial pharmacies. If you do not have prescription drug insurance or are unable to pay for your prescription medicine, financial assistance may be available.

The Family Health Centers located in East Jordan and Bellaire combine federal assistance, patient fees, community resources, and your support to offer quality, affordable medical services.

This health center is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. 233(g)-(n).

East Jordan Family Health Center is a Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) deemed facility.
