Our goals include: Preserving the natural character of the river and watershed; Informing and educating the public about our activities and issues involving the Jordan River Watershed; Protecting water quality; Promoting wise resource management on public and private lands within the watershed; Facilitating the coordination of policies and actions of various individuals, groups, and agencies affecting the environment within the watershed; Developing financial resources to carry out our mission and goals; and Pursuing broad-based support for our activities.
Over the years, FOJ has hosted numerous public information seminars and activities and continues to network with many groups and organizations as well as mentoring students on water quality and natural resource issues. Grandvue Medical Care Facility has been serving Northern Michigan for over 135 years. The facility has evolved from a working farm in 1898 to an infirmary with x-ray and maternity ward in 1949 to a Medical Care Facility in 1958. A specialized memory care community was added in 1997, and the facility was expanded and renovated in 2005
With interior expansion completed, focus shifted to the out-of-doors, and the Grandvue Terrace and Recreation Park was born. Funded through donations, in-kind gifts and grants from the local and long-term care communities, the Grandvue Greenhouse opened in 2016. The picnic pavilion, accessible gardens and walking paths were completed in 2019.
As a county medical care facility, Grandvue is owned by Charlevoix County and governed by the Charlevoix County Department of Health and Human Services Board. Grandvue provides 24-hour skilled nursing care in an environment that honors each Resident’s individuality and personal choices.

When we took over the cute little coffee shop in our downtown, we wanted a name that was catchy but not trendy, easy to say yet interesting at the same time, something that invoked a feeling of comfort and reflected our vision for the shop’s future… knowing we wanted an animal in the name for branding purposes, we pondered many different options but ultimately were drawn to the goat! After we honed in on our animal, we wanted to pay tribute to our community so we decided to tie in the word “iron.” Thus, Iron Goat Coffee was born! And to stay humble to our roots, we brand every piece of merchandise with our city’s zip code “49727” on the back!
(As a side note, one of the stories of the origin of coffee involves a farmer witnessing his goats dancing in a field and it turns out they were eating coffee beans…it was fate!)
