OVERVIEW of Position and Duties:

Charlevoix County Commission on Aging is seeking a part time Boyne Area Senior Center Cook.  This position is Monday through Friday, 8a-1:30p for 25 hours a week.  No Weekends, no evenings but will need to work Wednesday evenings June through August until 7p.  This position is responsible for the daily Boyne Area Senior Center meals based in the Boyne Area Senior Center.  Routine duties include assisting with daily meal preparation for congregate and home delivered meals, assisting with meal services such as packaging or serving as needed, and daily cleaning of the kitchen.  The right person needs to love to work with seniors, and for seniors, on an independent basis.  They should be creative, positive, outgoing, dependable, flexible.

Basic Job Description

  • We are seeking a part-time Marina Handyperson for various jobs and projects at our growing marina located on the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix. With a property and business like this, there are always various small and large fixes, improvements, upkeep and things to do. We are looking for someone that is a self-starter, has pride and detail in their work, and can handle tasks from start to finish within his or her own limits and capabilities.  This position also encompasses offering a helping hand around the marina such as launching boats, operating a tractor, assisting customers, and much more.  This position requires someone that enjoys the marine and boating environment, has a positive attitude and great work ethic, and gets along well with others.  It is a fun environment!

Core Responsibilities

  • May include but not limited to:
    • Minor plumbing and electrical work and repair. If something is beyond scope or capabilities you can help facilitate.
    • Carpentry – can you build things with wood, install a door, etc?
    • Dock or boat related minor hardware related repairs, setup, and assembly. Most of our work is with pontoon style boats and outboard motors.
    • General upkeep, yard work, and/or landscape
    • Operate a tractor, forklift, or truck to launch, haul out, or move a boat.

Schedule and Compensation

  • The schedule for this position is very flexible. It is most important to us to find someone that is a good fit and therefore we can work around your schedule.  With that being said, some sort of level of commitment is necessary to perform the various tasks and duties.  We are open from April to November and an ideal person would come back year after year.
  • This is an hourly position with the pay rate based on experience, abilities, and work ethic.

Marina Operations Agent

 Basic Job Description

  • The Marina Operations Agent is a hands-on position within our marina, dealership, and rental operations. This position will perform many daily operational hands-on duties and tasks including but not limited to the logistics of boats in and out of storage and service, seasonal marina setup and takedown, rentals throughout the busy peak summer season, gas dock and dry slip valet operations, assembly of various products we sell, and more.  Other opportunities and duties will depend on one’s skillsets but may involve roles in sales, service, and more. This position requires someone that enjoys the marine and boating environment, has a positive attitude and great work ethic, and gets along well with others.  It is a fun, fast-paced environment!

Core Responsibilities

  • Daily Operations:
    • Supports the owner and key staff in daily rental and marina operations including gas dock, retail store, transporting boats by land or water, operating a tractor and forklift, detailing/cleaning boats and equipment, assisting with new product setup and assembly. This position will play a large part in our rental operations including boat, jet-ski, water trampoline and paddlesports rentals.  Other duties will include property upkeep and seasonal marina dock setup and removal as well as some floating dock installs.  Much of the work will be done outside and sometimes in the water.
  • Customer Relations:
    • Assisting marina and rental customers as needed, providing high quality customer service with attention to detail.
  • Administrative Tasks:
    • Assist with recordkeeping and documenting completed tasks.
  • Staff Leadership:
    • Ability to train others and be a team player.

Requirements

    • Early September through October and into November, the rental season slows down and we ramp up for the boat storage/service and marina “pack-up” season.
    • From approximately Memorial Weekend through Labor Day weekend we are open 7 days a week 9am-6:30. Candidate should expect to work 5 days a week, sometimes 6, during this “peak” time. Outside of these dates, we operate mostly on a Monday through Friday 9am-5pm schedule.  Throughout the winter there may be some flexible/as needed part-time hours and may change as our business grows.

Compensation

  • Marina & Watersports Specialists are the frontline of the summer’s busy marina and boat rental season. This position will perform and serve many functions including but not limited to customer service, gas dock, retail store, boat detailing and cleaning, and boat, jet-ski, water trampoline, kayak, and paddleboard rental operations. Other opportunities and duties will depend on one’s skillsets and motivation. General Job Details/Requirements: 

  • Positive attitude, very detail oriented, creative thinking.
  • Enjoys watersports, boating, and spending the summer outdoors.
  • This position has a lot of variety in scope of work and great for someone that enjoy boats, watersports, the marina environment, and being active.
  • Self-motivated – Ability to see what needs to be done on your own with little supervision once trained.
  • Enjoys working with people and providing great customer service – you’ll get to meet all sorts of people from all over.
  • Ability to become comfortable providing thorough and detailed instruction of equipment (boats, jetskis, kayaks, paddle boards, tubes, waterskis, etc) in front of groups.
  • Must be or become very comfortable operating, maneuvering, and docking boats and Waverunners.
  • Vacuums, cleans, and details boats.
  • General yardwork/gardening – mowing, weeding, watering
  • Retail sales of watersports and boating equipment and accessories.
  • Gas Dock & Dock Hand – fueling boats, assisting customers.
  • Delivery of paddleboards, water trampolines, kayaks, and more.
  • Not afraid to swim, get wet, and install water trampolines, floats, etc.
  • Good driving record and must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Must possess or willing to acquire Michigan Boater’s Safety Certificate.  Classes are available with local sheriff’s department or can be done online.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs and doesn’t mind some occasional physically strenuous activity.
  • Other duties not listed but these are the basics. We like to utilize people’s strengths and partake in the various aspects they enjoy.
  • Company logo shirts provided.  Usual apparel is T-shirt, shorts and sandals/watershoes/tennis shoes.  We work outside!
  • We have fun too!  We swim and jump in the water during breaks and to cool off. Yes, we have a giant water trampoline out front for fun!

Position requires someone who enjoys being active.   Schedule is based on customer demand but it is very busy from mid June through August.   Our rental season is Memorial weekend through Labor Day weekend and Late April/May through October/early November with other marine activities.  Some seasonal flexibility for school or college schedule.

Ideal candidates would be able to work multiple seasons with potential for growth in pay and responsibility.  The position offers good pay, overtime, tips, and an end of season bonus. It’s a great seasonal job with much of our staff coming back year after year!
