SUMMARY:Kids Kayaking
DESCRIPTION:Our kids’ class is a great way to introduce your child to the sport of kayaking. Designed with fun and water safety as primary goals\, we teach students through a variety of games and exploration. Our experienced\, certified instructors teach basic skills with a goal to empower kids to be comfortable while out on the water. Classes are taught in traditional youth sized sea kayaks. \nAll classes are taught by ACA (American Canoe Association) certified instructors. Maximum student: teacher ratio is 4:1. Ages: 7-13\n$30/person for two hours. Need-based\, limited partial scholarships are available\, please contact us prior to registration for more information. \nKids will always be wearing life jackets while on the water but must be comfortable on the water with a life jacket on.  Participants must meet the ACA eligibility requirements. Extra thanks to the West Michigan Coastal Kayaking Association for sharing their youth-sized kayaks with us for these classes (check out their website for a great family friendly kayaking symposium hosted every Memorial Day weekend).

A Launch Celebration will be held on Friday\, June 28 from 4-6pm for new members and potential members who want to meet the board of directors and learn more about Impact100 Little Traverse Bay.  Impact100’s global founder\, Wendy Steele\, will be at the Launch Celebration to give the keynote speech and sign her 2023 book\, Invitation to Impact: Lighting the Path to Community Transformation. \nThe Impact100 model awards high-impact\, sustainable grants.  Members pool their $1\,000 annual dues and award $100\,000 grant(s) to area nonprofits in five Focus Areas: Arts & Culture\, Education\, Family\, Health & Wellness\, and Environment.  Founding membership closes December 31.  In October\, workshops for nonprofits will be held in Charlevoix and Petoskey. Grant applications open January 2025. \nMembers and prospective members interested in learning more can register for the Launch Celebration by June 14 at Impact100LTB.org

The baskets are optional add on’s. Only those who are building a garden need to purchase a ticket. If you are only observing or supervising a child you do not need to purchase a ticket.

Featured will be internationally acclaimed Balkan violinist Robert Lakatos from Serbia performing Ravel’s Tzigane\, Sarasate’s Caprice Basque and more on his private collection violin of Antonio Stradivari from 1709. \nMr. Lakatos is one of the most promising young artists of his generation and the GLCO is thrilled to bring him to the northern Michigan audiences. \nThe concert will take place at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor\, Petoskey on Thursday\, July 18th at 7 PM.
