DESCRIPTION:Petoskey District Library and Charlevoix Public Library are hosting “Little Waves\,” a young children’s music program. Free and open to the public and sponsored by the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra (GLCO)\, the program is designed to introduce young children (ages 4 – 10) and their families to music in an entertaining setting. Each drop-in event takes place at 10:30 am in Petoskey and 1 pm in Charlevoix. The theme for this year is “Musical Adventures.” Each session features a multimedia story\, an opportunity to hear one or more GLCO musicians demonstrate and explain how their instruments work\, and fun music-related activities for kids. The next event is Sat. DESCRIPTION:The Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra (GLCO) will present The Cummings Quartet on Sunday October 15th at 4 PM at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Petoskey. The public recital is part of GLCO’s Sunday Series\, which features small orchestra ensembles performing free concerts in churches around Northern Michigan. \nThe Cummings Quartet is a northern Michigan-based ensemble of professionals who perform with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra and the Traverse Symphony Orchestra\, and is named after the benefactors of the Dorothy Gerber Strings Program for area youth.  The quartet serves as teachers and artistic representatives of the program\, and includes Dr. David Reimer\, violin; Rodrigo Quintana\, violin; Dr. Benjamin Wu\, viola; and Elizabeth Bert\, cello. Featured works are Quartet No. 8 by Shostakovich and Quartet in F\, Op. 59\, #1 by Beethoven (Razumovsky). \nEmmanuel Episcopal Church is located at 1020 E. SUMMARY:GLCO presents Echoes from the Musikverein concert
DESCRIPTION:Join the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra for “Echoes from the Musikverein: Music from Vienna’s Golden Concert Hall” on Saturday\, November 4th at 7 PM at the Great Lakes Center for the Arts in Bay Harbor\, Petoskey.  The GLCO\, conducted by Maestro Libor Ondras\, brings to life masterpieces by Mozart\, Schubert\, and Haydn in this celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Vienna. The concert features guest piano soloist Michael Barrett in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 19. In addition\, 14-year-old violinist Eeva Rintala of Boyne City and winner of GLCO’s 2023 Charles F. Davis Young Artist Competition\, will be performing Beethoven’s Romance No. 2 with the orchestra.  Tickets are available at www.glcorchestra.org/concerts. DESCRIPTION:Welcome the New Year with the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra (GLCO)\, presenting Reperio on Sunday\, January 14 at 4 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Boyne City. The free public recital is part of GLCO’s Sunday Series\, which features small orchestra ensembles performing in Northern Michigan neighborhood venues. \nThe trio includes Nancy Stagnitta\, principal flutist with the GLCO and the Traverse Symphony; Ya-Ju Chuang\, multiple award-winning piano soloist and collaborative artist; and Dane Philipsen\, principal oboist of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra with guest affiliations with the Chicago and Detroit Symphony Orchestras. The trio will be performing music by Johann Sebastian Bach\, Clara Schumann\, William Grant Still\, Sigfrid Karg-Elert\, and Madeline Dring. \nThe First Presbyterian Church of Boyne City is located at 401 S. DESCRIPTION:Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra offers “Celebrating Songs of Love” at 4 PM on February 11\, 2024\, at the First Presbyterian Church in Petoskey\, 501 E. Mitchell St.\, featuring soprano Amy Cross\, accompanied by André Strydom.  The recital is free of charge (no reservations needed) as part of their Sunday Series recitals\, bringing small ensembles to neighborhood venues. \nVocalist Amy Cross is a frequent performer with area churches\, Bay View Association\, and with the GLCO\, and is the elementary school music teacher in Harbor Springs. \nThe program\, in honor of Valentine’s Day\, will include some of the most beautiful arias ever written\, beloved sacred pieces\, and powerful musical theatre songs. \nThe Sunday Series is made possible through the generous support of Carolyn Klender.
